SLF Round Steak Gyros
Round steak is my favorite steak to replace ground beef in recipes. I especially like to use it in Mexican, Asian, and Greek dishes because it works great in strips or small chunks, cooks quickly, and tastes great with ethnic seasoning.
Round steak is large (meaning one steak goes far), and easy on the budget. This tasty cut is definitely the underdog steak that nobody talks about, but everyone should have in their freezer to give tired ground beef recipes a facelift.
But let’s not cut it short either; you can still grill these babies or cook them in a skillet for a traditional steak dinner. So bring on all the little hungry cowboys and let’s try a farm style approach to a traditional Greek dish, the Gyros!
Farm table feedback: My boys all loved this dish, although my littles skipped on the Tzaztiki sauce. This recipe fed two adults and two littles, plus we had 1/2 a steak leftover. Joel added freshly ground salt to the top of his steak as he was building his Gyros. The man loves his salt. I did not add any extra seasoning but ate the lion’s share of the Tzaztiki sauce cause… Yum. I feel no shame. You can also use any leftover Tzaztiki sauce as a dip with Pita chips! Yup. Yumm.
Note: After you chop or grate the cucumber, squeeze it in a kitchen towel to get rid of the excess moisture.
